Behind those Care Home Doors

Our Patron and Author of Behind Those Care Home Doors Adeline Dalley who advocates for the provision of outstanding care should be the objective of every provider; the receipt of outstanding care should be the right of every individual who needs it.  Messaged me today with a personal report on Abuse within the care system.

Adeline writes that a Community Care Patient she cares for is currently in an acute hospital on a Special Elderly Unit.  Adeline has been receiving telephone calls from her client because he has been left with

  • No bell to call for assistance

  • No water to drink

  • And there is no sign of the staff who are supposed to be there to care for him.

In a recent phone call, he rang to say that he had been waiting 20 minutes for a commode – 20 minutes of waiting to use the bathroom.

Adeline, has in turn rung the ward to speak to someone and advocate for her client, but every time she calls no one answers.  So where are all the care staff?  Why is no one around to even answer the phone?

This is a top rated hospital it is classed as Outstanding!  Because by the simple virtue they treat thousands and their complaints statistics “only” falls within the hundreds.

Only a year ago another patient had serious issues, where after a review staff stated they would learn from their mistakes – from where we are sitting is doesn’t look like they’ve learnt anything and that there are still serious failings within the Ward, Hospital and Care Staff.

This is not just abominable, it is a serious failing in the standard of care.  We need to stop this now, Abuse in any form is not acceptable towards anyone young or old.
