Messaged me today with a personal report on the lack of inclusive and functional activities being offered within the care system.

So, let's talk Nursing Home Activities for £1200 a week or more at Christmas.

Edna's Law - Petition

Could I please ask those reading this article to sign the petition below?

Edna’s Law -

Edna was a defenceless elderly lady who died after terrible abuse in a BUPA care home even though it had been reported by no less than SEVEN care workers to Des Kelly.
He was not at arm’s length, he was directly involved as the decision maker and the whistleblowers gave him personally the evidence in a formal meeting with the prescribed regulator under PIDA.  Des Kelly also heard it afterwards in a court as he sat through every day of the employment tribunal of the BUPA7, as they became known.

The Silent Killer

Andrew Sachs loses his four-year battle with vascular dementiaAs Andrew Sachs loses his four-year battle with vascular dementia, this is how the disease can turn deadly - from pneumonia to heart disease and strokes, the chronic brain condition causes a host of deadly illnesses

Dementia is the Silent Killer.

It is a disease that’s primarily known for causing memory loss and confusion, rather than death.

Andrew Sachs loses his four-year battle with vascular dementiaBut with the unexpected passing of the Actor Andrew Sachs (the hapless Spanish waiter, Manuel in British Sitcom Fawlty Towers) this will no doubt bring the hidden implications of Dementia into sharp focus for the thousands of families affected.

The critically-acclaimed TV star passed away in his home, last week, after a secret, four-year battle with the chronic brain disease, which is currently thought to affect 850,000 people across the country.

In fact, the Office for National Statistics recently reported that dementia has overtaken heart disease as the leading cause of death in England and Wales.

During 2015, 61,686 out of 529,655 deaths registered in England and Wales were attributable to the condition. This accounted for nearly 12 per cent of all registered deaths.

Our Purpose - Mistaken Beliefs

An article from our founder
The Foundation is aware of what is happening with the lack of joined up care in the community and the added lack of proper treatment, support and understanding for people with complex health conditions
I think for me it is the quality of the training and lack of urgent nursing and care in the community when it is needed that worries me.

The Foundation is aware of what is happening with the lack of joined up care in the community and the added lack of proper treatment, support and understanding for people with complex health conditions, I fear it will simply result in isolating our frail and vulnerable people even more and, what we believe we are now seeing, - huge increases in people dying from Dementia. Very little care is focused around delivering better attitudes and approaches to people that are confused, anxious and frightened.

Consistent Leadership

A note from our Founder -
Moving towards a culture that is authentic and humane
Within an environment where people are free to give their best
Moving towards a culture that is authentic and humane Within an environment where people are free to give their best

When people are subjected to unacceptable levels of duress, and experience control by fear, bullying and intimidation, rarely does Social Care take protective action on people’s behalf and address their concerns.

Generally, there are no swift, effective, and satisfactory conclusions, and people in that care, continue to suffer and live for several months, if not years, within the confines of continue worries of retribution.

To turn around the crisis in Social Care and stop the unnecessary and untimely deaths it brings, care services urgently needs to look in on itself and to find solutions that will genuinely be trusted.

Since the Foundation received its Charity Status it has listened to many people’s real life stories of good and bad social care; it has researched a range of national and global opinions and innovations on care, analyzed the whole structure of the NHS, and reported on the proposals the NHS Constitution, for all the relevant Health and Social Care Legislation, Safeguarding and Whistleblowing directives, and developed systems.

Behind those Vacant Eye’s

Behind those vacant eye’s is a person, a being who has lived a full life. With memories and emotions, with knowledge and experiences.

Behind those vacant eye’s is a person, a being who has lived a full life.  With memories and emotions, with knowledge and experiences.

It’s that vacant look that scares me and serves as a reminder that Alzheimer’s and Dementia takes a piece of your loved one away, little by little.

You experience the highs and lows very quickly and just when you see a glimmer of light, and begin to hope that things may be getting better, it’s dashed away.

When I see my loved one’s like this I feel like I can literally see their soul trapped behind those vacant eyes, inside they are still them, the person they used to be and I think they’re trapped inside their own memories.  A carousel of emotions and thoughts.

But is there a way we can slow down the process, prevent further loss before it occurs?  Through Activities, Nutrition, or memory triggering senses?
